‘Assistive Products’: free helpdesk helps you and your customers get it right

This year’s anticipated changes to diversity law which will introduce the Equality Act means companies will need to show that they’re not just aware of their obligations towards disabled and older employees but demonstrating positive action to accommodate their needs.

The shorthand for this is ‘Reasonable Adjustments’. And as that term starts heading up everyone’s agenda, BT Wholesale customers and the businesses they serve have a new free resource to call on for help in getting it right.

BT Wholesale’s Chris Pearson explains: “We’ve just added 300+ Assistive Products to our eCatalogue, ranging from textphones, screen magnification and voice activated software to furniture. They’re here for our customers to buy for their own use but they also represent an important new sales opportunity – and particularly with the special service wrap we’re offering.”

“That’s because to help them and their business customers make the right choice, we’re also providing a helpdesk team called MiDRAS” adds Chris. “They’re disability Reasonable Adjustments experts and are working with us on a contracted basis. You can just tell them what kind of disabilities or impairments an individual employee or customer has – for example, impaired sight or hearing, using a wheelchair and so on – and the job they’re doing. The MiDRAS team can then recommend the best products and support to match their exact needs and help them work at their best. That advisory service comes free just by giving them a call. It’s as simple as that.”

And there’s also a suite of paid-for services available for you to add to your portfolio to make your new Assistive Products proposition even more attractive. Chris says: “The MiDRAS team can provide in-depth assessments on-site to help businesses equip their workplaces so it’s clear they’re committed not just to the spirit of Reasonable Adjustments but adopting them practically too. Plus product demonstrations, installation services and product training too.”
